This song always seemed to me about our times, but of course I have no idea

Oddly enough, in 2000 before that election I posted "parody" lyrics to this song under the title "Thick as Dubya" on Natalie Merchant's fan bulletin board...

Something about the "true believers" in W and this song seemed to resonate for me...
