I just heard on the TV that McCain had to tell Sarah that Africa is a continent rather than a country.
How's that?

There's been a minor scandal here about a conversation between Rudd and Bush that was leaked to the press. The story was that Rudd mentioned the G20, Bush asked what it was, and Rudd was astonished. Spokesmen for both Rudd and Bush denied this.
The American ambassador to Australia has resigned rather smartly. I imagine he has to attend to his investments.

In the wake of the election some "unnamed McCain campaign officials" are leaking horror stories about her knowledge and judgment. Rupert Murdoch's minions at FOX News are helping spread them; I first heard the Africa thing in a YouTube clip of a FOX broadcast.
Palin rightly called them cowards for expressing their opinions anonymously...
Right now there's an enormous struggle over the future of the Republican party. This post-election infighting is not terribly surprising.

So Rupert has something to do with this?
Interesting.

He's been an interesting figure in this election... he predicted Obama would win months ago. I never got the impression that he was working very hard for McCain

He always likes to get in on the ground floor.

Presumably they're leaking information to blame Palin for the loss-- although I don't see how it doesn't hurt McCain, too-- but if the information is true, people need to know.
Leaks are pretty common, actually, so this doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me, except that what they've leaked is so remarkable.

I'm rather enjoying the coverage of the infighting in John McCain's campaign. I think it's nice to see the "shadow side" of these happenings...
Sarah Palin. I'm not sure if she got caught in the crossfire, or whether she's been out hunting herself.

> (what's the call of an elk?)The call of an elk is very strange. I was camped out in Yellowstone one night and I kept hearing this noise that I couldn't identify. It was the bull elk bugling to get the attention of the females. At midnight a friend and I went down into that meadow and sat down on a big tree stump. I was, at the same time, scared witless and so excited that I could hardly sit still. Grizzly bear had eaten a French photographer about a month before my trip. We heard a switching through the tall grass and sat as long as we could and D.J. turned on the light and it was a young bull sneaking up on us. Glad you reminded me that trip. Bugling.
