These campaigns

I miss Nixon, Sisigmund.....

I am so tired of the rhetoric and lies and smears and self-serving *hit".....we have four months of this nonsense on the horizon.

I am campaigning for a hispanic man who is running for Senate and already the racial slurs have started from the other side. We have to rid ourselves of the incumbent senator....he is against everything good and fair.

Long sigh.......

Rudd won against Howard with a strategy of politeness and elevated moral tone. This must have been neccessary to avoid some kind of wedge, in our case something broadly along the lines of 'How can you trust the ALP to run the ocountry when they don't know how to behave properly?' So when Obama says 'What you will not see in this campaign is (I forget what he said now)' it makes perfect sense from here.

I think the landscape has already changed and there is a widespread understanding that the utopian projects of the past few years are quite beside the point when it comes to dealing with the problems we face, one of which will be regearing the economy to use less carbon. Itis a pity the last 10 years have been wasted when they could have been used to plan the transition. Considering the scale of the challenge and the consequences of getting it wrong, it is astonishing that so little has been done. (There is an Australian physics professor currently building a solar electricity plant, using fields of mirrors, I think, in California because he could not do it here.)

The very first "wind" generators that I saw were in California. I was on my way to an Ansel Adams workshop. They almost scared us. :-) We had never seen anything like them before. You can see them for miles and miles....so we felt like we were in alien country.

The waste of resources and our carbon "footprints" are going to bring us to our knees.....all over the world.

I've reduced my foot print as low as I can. Clothesline, good gas mileage, fill gallon jugs with water while waiting for hot to come to kitchen, (for plants, pets, tea, coffee)eat no meat, shop at thriftshops (recyling), use all of my food scraps in my compost pile, do my laundry with cold water, treat stains with sunshine and lemon juice, use soda and vinegar for cleaning and vinegar to kill weeds. the composts reduces the water use in my garden and on and on.....

Obama doesn't talk about the environment and McCain, who knows?

Now the press is saying that Obama was sexist when he said, "I married up".....that is a freaking compliment to me. It means that he feels she's smarter, etc. than him.....at least to me. I wouldn't be upset if a man said that about me.
