Sen. Larry Craig, (R) Idaho, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in June. He was arrested by a plainclothes officer investigating complains of lewd behavior in the mens restrooms at a Minnesota airport.
Yesterday's press conference contained his emphatic declaration that he is not gay. Who cares? I care that a member of the Senate broke the law, failed to consult with an attorney before making a guilty plea in hopes of keeping the issue quiet by avoiding further court appearances, and then claimed he was "flustered" by harassment from the press when he made that guilty plea. I care about honesty and respect for the law in my elected officials. Though I did giggle a bit knowing that Sen. Craig is one of the most vocal "family values" (his definition, not mine) proponents in the Senate. He has spoken out against gay marriage and equal civil rights for gay individuals in the past.
But do I care whether he is or isn't gay? Nope.
I don't give a rat's behind if he's homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, transsexual, asexual, quasi-sexual, metro-sexual, micro-sexual, cyber-sexual, herbi-sexual, omni-sexual, hyper-sexual, cogni-sexual, epi-sexual, pseudo-sexual, aqua-sexual, auto-sexual, geo-sexual, gero-sexual, astro-sexual, photo-sexual, multi-sexual, ante-sexual, semi-sexual, neo-sexual, auto-sexual, circum-sexual, peri-sexual, retro-sexual, intra-sexual, ambi-sexual, ideo-sexual, amphi-sexual, dis-sexual, mono-sexual, psycho-sexual, telo-sexual, non-sexual, para-sexual, sub-sexual, terra-sexual, extra-sexual, nouveau-sexual, contra-sexual, hemi-sexual, magna-sexual, super-sexual, uni-sexual, eco-sexual, anti-sexual, theo-sexual, neuro-sexual, or any other kind. (Oh god I think I'm channeling Bubba from "Forrest Gump".) I don't care if he's all of these as long as it's on his own and/or with consenting beings.
But hey, say it three times in your press conference, Sen. Make sure we hear it. It's obviously important to you, even if it's not to me.
:)

Snort, the things that crack me up....
He also said, "I never have been gay." Say that one out loud, emphasizing the "have". Would someone please loan the Senator their tube of Bengay, please? Apparently he never seems to have any. ;)

LOL I agree! After just watching Forest Gump this weekend, it was hilarous. I am still trying to figure which I am from that long list. Hetero doesn't seem as much fun as some of the other ones. lol

>I never have been gay
I suppose it's OK to use the present perfect like this, the absence of gayness continuing into the present, though perhaps not the future.
He's in a bit of a bind now, hypocrisy being out of fashion and all.
I'm not familiar with 'Forest Gump', but a kid once amused me by saying his favourite movie was 'Forest Grump'.

That's cute.
From the movie: the character "Bubba" is speaking, with a deep southern, slow drawl, about his desire to be a shrimp boat captain when he gets out of the service...
"Bubba: Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it."
It's a cute scene.

Yeah, I tried not to really "read" the words as I spit them out, or I'd have distracted myself. Some lend themselves to some interesting visuals, though, eh? :)

Billy Bob Thornton in "Sling Blade"?
I suppose that's was my favourite southern accent film.

I haven't seen that one. I've always intended to. I should start a list for the next time we go to Blockbuster. Thanks!
Do you suppose the soon to be former senator will rent "My Left Foot" anytime soon? ;)
Poor guy. I feel sad for him. It's rather tragic, actually. But tremendous late night comic fodder, of course.
