Since it is an issue of morality and character, there is little of substance that can be said here.
However, focus groups are suggesting that the people of Australia want more in the way of honest debate, and are beginning to be able to recognise mock humility and ruthless pursuit when they see it.

Mr Howard's very special combination of audacity and caution was revealed to us again when he claimed that economic progress (for which, in humility, he took <undeserved> credit only in passing) was of little value in itself. What was of value was the 'social dividend' produced as a consequence.
This is his most audacious move since he made trust the main issue in the last election.

John Howard is the Prime Minister of Australia.
Surely someone saw him at the ranch?

That seems to be an infectious disease. Let's hear it for honesty in public office. Whaaa???? that sounds like a death wish, eh?I wish I wasn't so freaking cynical. Life sure would be more quiet.
If I still drank, Declan, I'd love to hoist a pint with you and jabber away. It would be a meeting of the souls.Youse a good guy.

Naturally I got this idea from a magazine where the writer was contrasting Australian politics to The West Wing where there are always political fixes going on, but there is no corrosion of character.
I think American politics (from the little I know of it) is more intellectually scrupulous than the Australian sort.
Not saying much, I know.
This is the end of the thread.
