POT is not addictive. Most illegal drugs are. Pot does not create violent people. If it were legal it would not be laced with who knows what.

I Canada it is decriminalized. Ie. you can legally posess a small quantity (although I don't know what exact law is now). Though, this doesn't guarentee purity.

I am in Canada now. I recall that it was decriminalized ~5 years ago, I think that the law is the same, though not sure.

Does Canada health insurance cover mental health services including meds or do you have to buy that separetly? I used to live in Canada 10 years ago and for me to see a psychologist I had to buy insurance to cover that. How much is the copay on meds.

Its a catch 22.
The drug has such a bad image because it is illegal. The drug is kept illegal because it has such a bad image.

For a little while people would only get charged if they had larger amounts, but THAT didn't last for long.
I live in Ontario & it can be used for medical purposes IF you have a medical certificate or something. I'm pretty sure that's how it is now.
As to medical coverage:
Medical doctors & psychiatrists are covered by government medical (that we don't need to pay for).
Prescriptions are not paid for unless you're on welfare, disability, possibly seniors (but probably only if there's a very low income)Psychologists & social workers aren't covered under the government medical. Actually, it varies from province to province to some extend. In BC they cover some alternative health care I believe, whereas in Ontario they don't

As to legal or not it's an interesting question:
alcohol is legal & I'm sure there's way more violent crime & car deaths (as well as murders come to that) due to its use than due to the use of marijuana.
On the other hand, I've seen so many of my son's friends mess up their lives from going from day to day stoned out of their skulls & not giving a sh*t about ANYthing, man!!!!!!! Dohhhhhhhh!!!!
Who knows, maybe my son gravitated to people who were like him? I guess lots & lots of folks smoke up & AREN'T like that! I dunno.
I often think it's pretty weird that the government makes tax $ from alcohol when it is involved in so many problems from car accidents, to murder, to ruined families; ruined lives.
Yet marijuana doesn't cause those things & is illegal?????? I dunno.Life if pretty darned weird sometimes.

what happens with prescriptions? Do you pay a co-pay, or do you have to buy insurance to cover that or do you pay full price, ie, $400 for a bottle of zyprexa.

I think its like alcholol. Some people can drink a little once in a while, and it doesn't become a problem. But for those who have been a freind, family member, or aquaintaince of a chronic alchoholic, you would think that that it is the devils drink.
I would like it if the indication for marajuanna was extended for other indications. If a doctor feels that medicinal marajuanna could help a person sleep, restore appeitie, or reduce anxiety during a major depressive episode, then why not?
I've seen people take benzodiazapines to the point of being hung over all the time, but that doesn't mean they can't be used appropriately when neccessary.

I don't agree with some of the things about alcohol. Like when you get so drunk you start trashing your apartment or drive into someones house or get alcohol poisoning. Know your limit.

i agree. booze is much more destructive and costs everyone more due to accidents, violence, etc.

Hi - I am not sure. Most large companies have health/dental plans that cover a usually large percentage of dental stuff & meds.
If you're on welfare or disability or are a senior with a limited income, I believe the government (at least in Ontario - it can vary from province to province) covers an 'approved' list of drugs.
My daughter says that she thinks that if you have large ongoing prescription expenses, you might be able to apply for assistance...that's the part I don't know about, since I've never had to do it.
I am pretty sure that in Ontario, something called The Trillium Grant, (a fund) will help with certain meds - for example insulin. Perhaps certain anti-depressants, etc can also be covered under that. I imagine the information could be found on the internet under Ontario Government, prescription medicine assistance, or something like that.
