Canadian's Against War in Afghanistan

Posted by Jay on May 28, 2006, at 0:21:29

I think it is time Canadians start a "movement", much like the former Vietnam protests. If you are for the occupation of Afghanistan, that of course is your every right and I respect it. Canadian soldiers are, more and more, coming home in body-bags, and this goes against the idea that Canada was among the leaders, if not the leader, in our Peacekeeping role. Hearing and seeing those poor soldiers in Afghanistan, I just think to myself.."This is not Canada..this is not how we do things in this country." Our former great Nobel Peace prize winner, and Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson, must be turning in his grave seeing Canadian blood being spilt for, IMHO, another country's desire for oil.

Hi Jay
Canada behaved much better than Australia when it came to Iraq. A good friend of the USA would have given frank and fearless advice. Instead the Australian Government has been motivated by some form of insecurity to back the USA regardless. Looked at charitably it could be concern about conflict with Indonesia over Irian Jaya and stuff like that in the future. Otherwise it seems to be a venal grab for the Free Trade Agreement.
