today. National holiday of New Zealand.
we celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi (partnership between Maori and Europeans)

though in practice... there will be maori activist activities and i wonder what will be on the news tonight...
(there is a lot of debate as to the precise meaning of the different versions of the treaty etc etc)

Funny, it didn't get any mention on the news here in the usa, It tell you, it happens all the time, I have to log on to bbc.news.org to find that the world is up to.
