A letter was sent requesting lowered taxes OR ELSE the writer said they were going to release a vial of foot and mouth virus over on Waiheke island (not far from the mainland at all).
National panic.
Dairy is out biggest export.
Biggest import of beef is the US
It would cause billions of dollars of damage to the economy.
We'd be screwed basically.Haven't found any evidence that it has been done yet.
All the cows on the island are being tested.
The writer plans to release a vial somewhere on the mainland on Friday if the demands aren't met.It could be...
It could be...
A student prank.

> Who knows. You know Alex, before I got into social work I was a poli sci major, but going into social work allowed me to provide action on my ideas of social equality and justice. I *really* like your understanding of taxes. Just *think* about how important tax money is: build schools; infrastructure, roads, etc..; provide police, fire, ambulance and in many countries, like mine, all medical services; they contribute to governmental non-profit research in so many areas; they look after the old in nursing homes; they make sure kids are treated properly via Children's Aid societies..oh and on and on.
Hey...you where looking for a way to apply your knowledge...what don't you consider a career in social work? You seem to have the right set of values and social outlook. Seriously....think about it!
Best,
Jay

Well.....
Probably 'misunderstanding' really...>Just *think* about how important tax money is: build schools; infrastructure, roads, etc..; provide police, fire, ambulance and in many countries, like mine, all medical services; they contribute to governmental non-profit research in so many areas; they look after the old in nursing homes; they make sure kids are treated properly via Children's Aid societies..oh and on and on.
Yeah. They pay for election campaigns. And development of bombs and missiles. Training people to kill one another.
I don't know how happy I'd be about paying taxes if I didn't feel that the govt. was spending the money well. And I guess the problem is that if I am wealthy then why should my money, the money I earn go to enabling someone who is either too proud or too lazy to eat and have a home?????
My problem with taxes, on the other hand... Would be developing weapons and missiles and paying for election campaigns and wars.> Hey...you where looking for a way to apply your knowledge...
Nope.
I'm a philosopher.
(unemployed)
