Vertigo came back

Posted by Dinah on November 9, 2008, at 16:48:25

I just don't understand it. I had retrained my brain for the inner ear weakness and I was doing fine. I even scraped and painted standing on a ladder, reaching up, and even bending backward.

Then I spent a week with almost no sleep and yes, I didn't treat my body very well. Stress, no sleep, forgot my meds.

I wasn't overly surprised to have some balance problems right at the end. But this is a week later and I still almost fell over walking in the house because the world tilted to the left.

I'm not panicking about it. But I can't for the life of me figure out how a few lost nights of sleep could cause the vertigo to not only come back but to stick around.

Dinah just read an article in the nursing part of webmd that vertigo is very common with psychatric problems I didn't know that and I think stress and no sleep is probably the culprit. I think we all need some sleep. Love Phillipa

Well, the tests positively identified the original cause of my vertigo as an inner ear weakness, probably caused by a relatively mild virus I had a bit earlier that apparently went to my ear. I don't think a psych condition could be involved in that.

It probably is true that people who are very sensitive to the signals from their body would have a tendency to be more aware of inner ear differences, and they may also be more likely to have psychiatric conditions.

But I doubt the correlation is precise. Or at least in my case I know it's not all in my head.

The ENT told me my brain would retrain itself to the new normal in balance inputs from my inner ears, and so it did. I guess it just lost some of its training in the stress of that week. I dunno.

It's gone again. So it must have just been that my brain was tired and didn't want to have to work as hard.
