Acetaminophen toxicity

Posted by Jamal Spelling on June 22, 2008, at 15:59:20

I ask this question on behalf of my father, who suffers from pain in his ankle due to a sports injury many years ago. He wants to find out how safe it is to take 500 mg acetaminophen daily on a permanent basis.

Also, I read Larry Hoover's posts in the archives about equal-milligrams dosing with acetyl-cysteine to protect the liver. Is acetyl-cysteine safe when used regularly?

Also, how safe is ibuprofen (200 mg/day) and orphenadrine (35 mg/day) when taken permanently?

He used to take diclofenac, but has stopped because of blood pressure concerns.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I take a good bit of acetaminophen (within the prescribed doses) and have for many years for pain. I think it depends on his overall health. I do know it is best not to drink and take it.

Thanks Midnightblue. It seems the doses he is considering are low enough to be safe.
