The latest on Zetia is that it does not do what it is supposed to do any better than a much less costly generic med for cholesterol. This info just released a few days ago. Sales of this drug was in the billions so big loss for big Pharma. But if it doesn't work, just money out the window or pocket of those without a drug benefit. Even with a drug benefit, money for nothing going to big Pharma.
Supposedly the original trial information only included 700 patients and the new data is based on thousands of patients over the past few years.
So when a new drug is released, the hype is there but in reality, outcomes are needed after a few years with many more subjects.
It makes me think about all the newly released psych drugs that pdocs push so aggressively and then as patients, we experience the side effects which are never identified in the testing phases. Why aren't more of these drugs pulled? Is it because so many side effects of psych drugs are psychological and can't be reproduced or believed like physical ones?
I always think no matter what a psych patient says, it is discounted alot easier than a medical patient. Discrimination still exists
