Another stupid temperature question

Posted by Dinah on March 19, 2007, at 17:54:04

My base temperature has risen to about 99.4 for several months. Starting this weekend, my face has felt flushed off and on. When it feels flushed, I feel pressure in my face, or maybe my head. If I take my temperature at that time, my temperature is well over 100. If I look in the mirror, my face looks mottled. The more flushed, and the more mottled, the higher the temperature.

Whether or not I take anything, my temperature goes back down to its regular low nineties in an hour or so and seems to more or less stay there until I feel the flush again.

I feel so *stupid* saying this to a doctor. Unless he sees something in the checkup, there's really no other symptoms. I may possibly have an earache, but if I'm not even sure, how can it be an earache?

I hate going to a doctor and having him laugh at me. I've got my husband for a witness, but even so...

could it be hot flashes or something? Maybe anxiety?

Wow. I never even thought of hot flashes. I am getting up there.

I think my problem is that I just hate going to the doctor unless I'm positive there's something wrong with me. I'm afraid he'll laugh and I'll be embarassed.

Well I was told by my doc that you can have hormone problems that can start in your late 30 that lead up to menapause (premenapause). I hope that isn't the case for you. :)

Well, as it turned out the doctor thought I had and infection and sent me home with antibiotics, and I'm feeling better.

How are you today, Dinah?

A bit irritated with myself for forgetting to take my antibiotic last night. But I'll take it now. Thanks for reminding me. :)

I feel definitely better, not only with the flushing and temperature, but also with the overall sluggishness. So maybe that was related to whatever underlying infection I had.

Thanks for asking,

Dinah

Arrgh.

I totally messed up with the antibiotics. Not only did that make them potentially not as helpful to me, but I'm afraid I contributed to the whole superbug problem.

When I manage to concentrate on work, everything else goes out the window.
