Thyroid not One but Two

Posted by Phillipa on March 5, 2007, at 21:33:49

Since I became really anxious and they say depressed I've known I have hasimotos thyroiditis. Well for 9 years I was stable with the thyroid. Then labor day it went hyper. They have the endos been trying to adjust it right. I saw the Nurse Practitioner there today who said not only do I have hasimotos low thyroid but auto antigens to Graves as well. So I have both. Some cytomel will be added per my husbands request. But she said find a good pdoc as SSRI's norepenephrine, dopamine, wellbutrin none work and she laughed at MAOI's . I and my husband went in person to the pdoc here we've been trying to see as he's wholistic too and his reputation as an MD and psychiatrist he has a long list of people waiting to see him. The receptionist saw me and said she would put me on the top of the list for new patients but that could be months . She also gave a name of two others he sometimes refers to. I don't know what to do as the RN said I needed a creative doc to figure out some meds for me and the history of chronic lymes disease. I am doomed as I feel worse daily crying and I never do. Love Phillipa. Well at least I got it out Now could a good doc see this and find me?

You have to be persisent. Keep calling the office and insisting on an appointment. Ask that your name be added to the cancellation list. Don't take no for an answer. If you don't push and push and push, you won't get the treatment you need. You know what they say - it's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Sometimes, we have to be squeaky wheels. You have had to wait long enough. This has been going on for months and months. I remember at one point you had talked about a small pituatory tumour - what is being done about that? Have you had the necessary tests to check parathyroid function? Sometimes you have to go in with a list of things you want checked out as well as all the questions you want answered. Be prepared for each and every appointment and keep pushing until they have checked everything and gotten to the bottom of it. You have lost enough of your life to this, and now you have to start being more assertive!

Have you ever tried Armour thyroid? Some people do better on that than the synthetic T4 preparation. It contains both T4 and T3. Might be worth asking about. Also, there is a website called about.com with a thyroid forum. I think there may be a list of the top thyroid docs there. If so, you could perhaps call each and every one of them and try to get an appointment ASAP. Plus, there is a lot of good information and support there. Somebody may be experiencing, or may have experienced, something similar to what you are going through and could offer advice, support, etc.

Anyway, sorry to sound so bossy. Good luck to you, Phillipa.

Got into see that pdoc today it was like a miracle as he saw all my labwork we had copies with use. He said since my whole family had anxiety my primary dx is anxiety. He wants me off the ad's to see a baseline. He's calling the endo today or tomorrow and also thinks I don't need thyroid meds that I am borderling hypo. And the reason I was stable thyroid wise was because I was taking it with food for 9years so didn't absorb it. And the ad's they have been throwing at me at the root of my anxiety. His plan is to first talk to the endo, see what my baseline off ad's is in three weeks and probably put me on long acting xanax. He loves the benzos. He has people coming from all States to see him as he spends at least hour with each patient. He thinks my problems arents mental but physical. Remember I also have had the chronic lymes all at the same time. So now it's a waiting game. The pituitary tumor was nothing the endo did blood work to rule out lactating etc. Love Phillipa
