I got a physical...

Posted by Llurpsie_Noodle on March 2, 2007, at 11:07:45

For the first time in 8 years. With complete blood work. Pdoc looked at it and said my values were all completely normal and healthy.

(phew... sigh of relief...)

now I've just got my crazy brains to deal with.

The other health-chores that I'm procrastinating right now include

dentist appt. (haven't gotten my teeth cleaned in 2 years... sorry for the gruesome details, folks)

gyno appt. it's been 8 years. there's some traumatic material that I'm working on in therapy now. so... we'll see. but I do have a good recommendation from my T for a kind and gentle "OB-gynie"

but there's no need to get all my teeth pulled this week.

I've made an appt. with dietician to help me lose weight that I gained while on seroquel. I'm hoping that this will help motivate me to clean up those extra 2-300 kcal of junk that I eat every day.

thanks for letting me share my healthy physical news :)

It's a pain getting everything done, but worth it in the end.

Good for you llurpsie!

I always get really scared that something is wrong after I take tests, but it's great to find out you're healthy and normal.

Good to know we have a healthy noodle!

Hey, do you get called up for 'cerival smear tests' in America? We get a letter from our GPs every 2-3 years telling us we have to have a smear test (to detect any changes in the cervical cells apparently to stop cervical cancer before it comes up properly). I DREAD those. I've had two so far in my life and are quite awful. They blanket test ALL women who are basically (to put it bluntly) of ahem, sexually active age. And they're pretty awful and are carried out by nurses. Yuck!

You know you can clean your own teeth. I just bought a set of dental picks, the same thing your dentist uses to clean your teeth. You just scrape the plack out from under your gums along side your tooth. This also prevents periodontal disease. Be carfull not to tear up your gums, or be too hard on your teeth. I also bought some mouth wash which kills the bad bacteria in your mouth, this also gets the bacteria under your gums. Better than bruching and flossing alone. There is good and bad bacteria, you want to get rid of the bad bacteria which then the good bacteria will live and multiply. last but not least I bought a water pick which cleans even better under your gums.

The results. My gums don't bleed at all, don't swell, and are tight against teeth. Plus mouth feels better in general. Yes I have mid to late stage periodontal disease which showed up when I didn't go to the dentist for years. My goal. To prevent spending the $3000 my dentist wants for periodontal cleaning and medication, for the next 3 visits. Outragious, and insurance only covers $500 worth.

I worked for a (crazy) dentist for several years, whose practice emphasized soft tissue management. I saw many cases of periodontal disease turn themselves around when the patient became more involved in taking care of their gums.

I use a Waterpik oral irrigator, and my dental hygienist has pronounced my home care as top notch. I had been facing having gum surgery. There's also a device that installs into your shower that does the same thing.

Here's to keeping our smiles healthy.
