Strep throat and depression.. ( and other ?'s)

Posted by spriggy on August 16, 2006, at 0:45:43

We'll see if I can make this understandable.

All last week I had a really, really bad bout with depression. I hadn't been that bad in over a year.

My mind was dark and cloudy, I felt overwhelming guilt, I spent 3 days lying on the couch and just crying. I couldn't even care for my children or myself ( my husband was terrific).

I had no CLUE what was wrong with me but during this time, I felt pretty "weird and sickly."

I had a lot of chills and just a feeling of malaise.

I have fibromyaglia so I just pushed this off to maybe a flare up..

Over the weekend I got way worse and by today, I couldn't swallow without feeling as if I was devouring sharp metal and/or knives.

I took my temp and it was 100 so I went into the dr.

Lo and behold, I had an extremely high white count and positive strep test.

Could this strep have caused my severe depression ???

Also, my oldest son who is 11 ( and autistic and doesn't speak much at all) vomitted out of the blue on Friday and developed a rash on his mouth. After that he just acted kind of "off" for a few days; tired- no fever though.

He is doing better now but I am concerned he had strep as well ( he always vomits when he has strep) and since he can't speak enough to tell me if his throat hurts or whatever...

Do you think he should be seen?

He currently has NO health coverage ( I am in battle with the state over his coverage) but if he has strep, I will take him regardless of charge.

I am just confused becuase he is acting just fine now and hasn't had a fever.

Can you have strep without fever??

Any help would be great..

Spriggy I think you should have him checked. Especially since you have had strep. OR your doc might decide to just go ahead and put him on an antibiotic.

My daughter had strep once AND "passed" the rapid strep test! Took her to the doc again two weeks later for peeling hands and feet and was told not only had she had strep she had scarlet fever! So much for them yelling at me and making me feel like I was a stupid mother and telling me is was JUST A VIRUS!

Sometimes a mother just KNOWS. Ya know?
