Anyone benefited from a Kidney / Colon detox?

Posted by FrequentFryer on June 23, 2006, at 0:49:14

Hi all.
I have taken a fairly high amount of drugs over the past 4 - 5 years including Anti Depressants which put me through a few phases of chronic constipation.
I don't eat much fruit or veg & do eat allot of red meat.
Recently I decided to take a break from the drugs for a while and was wondering if anyone out there has gotten any benefits from doing a Liver / kidney / Colon Cleanse kind of thing?
I did a bit of research and havn't found many positive experiences.

Maybe I would be better off just eating lots of fibre and drinking lots of water.

What do you think?

The "detox" industry is largely pseudoscientific with lots of quackery. It is doubtful whether most of these procedures hold any super-placebo benefit, and some of these procedures (like colon-enemas) are not even safe. The human body is expert at "detoxifying" itself.

I hope that helps you some.

Better off drinking lots of water and eating fiber rich foods. A lot of fruit and vegtables. Love Phillipa

Yes, I would put it in the quackery department -- and it can even damage your colon if its high pressure enough. Just eat your veggies, or take some wheat or wheat and oat bran (some people get bloated -- there are non soluble alternatives like Citrucel, which is currently on recall for heavy metals in some batches but will be back on the market soon.)
