HELP ALLERGIC REACTION TO ANTIBIOTICS

Last tuesday I was given Omnicef and broke out with hives so I stopped the meds then thursday my doctor gave me biaxin xl and the hives continued uninterrupted so I stopped those as well. Have not had any antibiotics since friday, but the hives continued and got WORSE. Soooo bad that Sunday I had to go to the ER cause my mouth and tounge were swollen. I am now on other meds to control that issue with swelling however I am terrified that when I run out of the meds It will happen again. How long do the antibiotics stay in your system??? Please help I am very scared

I'm allergic to most antibiotics; I either get hives or throw up or both.. LOL

Try Benadryl; that helps me.

Maybe start out with one tablet and see if that helps..

I hope you feel better soon.

PS. Also eat plain yogurt with live cultures to offset any stomach issues from the antibiotics.

Hi Annika,
i'm sorry that you had such a bad reaction to the antibiotic. Make sure your drs and pharmacy knows that you're allergic so you won't have to go through this again.

i can relate so well- i had a reaction like that to penicillin and it became worse each day- for about a week AFTER i stopped taking it. The hives got worse and worse until i had to see my dr for a prescription antihistimine.

Anyways, i hope that you're feeling better now.
Hives are so hard to have- i had hives everywhere- it was terrible.
