LASIK and Light Therapy

Posted by mike99 on April 12, 2006, at 13:53:06

This is probably a shot in the dark, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experiences or information regarding LASIK eye surgery and light therapy.

Specifically, I currently use a blue light for sleep disorder. I am also considering LASIK eye surgery and wonder if I'd have to stop light therapy for a period of time before/after sugery.

Any info would be cool, thanks.

Mike

I had Lasik for distance couldn't tolerate bifocals. Mine ended up being PRK as my corneas were thin just a longer healing time. No light theraphy. As a matter of fact they give you dark glassed to wear after surgery. And it doesn't hurt. Just used drops. Love Phillipa

I'm assuming you are young and need to constantly wear glasses to see. I know a lot of younger people who had just the Lasik as they could not see. They loved it they could see clearly right away. In my case I still need them to read but no more glasses to just walk around. You may see halos for a week or two at night but they disappear. I'm sure in the two years since I had mine done I could probably get for reading too. They have one type where you can see in one eye distance the other reading I tried contacts they made me feel drunk. One eye could see up close the other only distance. I am very sensitive to my vision. I know you will be happy to go without glasses. Please write and let me know how it goes. Love Phillipa. ps could you ask if they do have one for both now or If I could get the reading done now too? Thanks

Yup.

While they can fix farsightedness (or one eye distance and one reading), my understanding is that age-related changes requiring reading glasses still cannot be surgically corrected. I plan to have LASIK in just under a year---so I guess I'm getting ahead of myself, but I will be happy to ask for you then. Don't worry...I won't forget.

Sure

I'm running across $1500-2000/eye--more w/ astigmatism.

Ack, that's expensive. Still, I really ought to add up the anticipated cost of eyeglasses, contacts, and contact supplies over the next several years to try to justify the cost. I'd love to have Lasik, although I'm also scared of it. Of course, it's a long term goal if I do ever decide to go ahead with it.

As far as light therapy, that's a very good question to ask. My guess would be that it would be contraindicated for awhile, but maybe not forever, especially since you don't look directly into the light.

Take care,

gg

gg if you were glasses for distance it is more than worth the price. A good pair of glasses which as you age they change the prescription yearly run you over Three hundread dollars. Add that up over the years. And they now have other types of surgery Lasix is just brand of the name of the machine they use. I know for a fact in Raleigh NC they use something that is supposed to be much better. And the prices should be going down. Love Phillipa
