Terrible acne from Zoloft Accutane help?

Posted by DanielJ on February 27, 2006, at 19:57:27

My son has had terrible acne ever since starting
Zoloft 2 years ago. The doctor recommended he take
Accutane for it after everything else failed. Can anybody give us
some input on Accutane if they are taking it and how effective it is?
We are seeing the dermitologist in 3 hours.

I took Accutane several years ago. It cleared my acne completely but it is a pretty toxic drug.

What has your son tried for his acne so far? Tell us more........

For goodness sakes no! Esp if your son has been suicidal, don't take anything that could potentially make the depression worse.

Two of my non-depressed friends with no histories of mental illness developed severe suicidal depression from acutaine.

He has taken Doxycyclene for almost a year. Then
he quit for 3 months. Then another anti biotic
that gave him stomach cramps. last 3 months on
Doryx a milder doxycyclene time release. The best
he looked was on the original doxycyclene but you
can't take it forever it's bad for liver etc.
Dr said she would OK accutane with reservations.
We had to read a long list of possible side effects
May be too scary, we got some topicals and other
pills, we will hold off on accutane.
