fat malabsorption ~ essential fatty acids

Posted by Green Willow on January 9, 2006, at 22:19:10

Does anyone have any good information on fat malabsorption? Any informative websites? I have this condition (dx by stool analysis) and I have constant ongoing physical health problems; it was recently suggested to me that I possibly do not have enough essential fatty acids in my system to keep the ligaments, etc. strong. Would like more info.
Thanks, Green Willow

Well, what I've heard about my thing is that maybe I'm deficient in bile acids and that's why I can't take much fish oil. I just don't seem to be able to absorb too much of it, with predictable results.

No, no test done. My doc just suggested that when we were talking about fish oil. I asked him how much he took, and he said that he took 3g in the morning. I said that would make me sh*t like a duck, so he said what you should try is pancreatic enzymes with bile acids. I haven't done that yet.

I will be interested in your results if you ever try the pancreatic enzymes or bile acids. I did try Bile and it made my problem even worse. For me I could see no improvement with pancreatic enzymes either. Doctor believes the cause of my fat malabsorption is bacterial overgrowth, but didn't do anything more than just tell me that.
