My sister, Ecstacy and Seizure

Posted by spriggy on November 27, 2005, at 14:08:15

I only have one sibling; she has ADD and Bipolar, and is a drug addict/alcoholic/sex addict.

She is only 20 and has lived enough in her 20 years to be 80!

She's already been busted twice- she "deals" drugs as well. I am very, very, very concerned about her.

I haven't talked to her in a while- it's very hard to keep up with her. She lives all over the place; from campgrounds, to men's apartments, to hotel rooms', etc..

I usually hear from her every 2-3 months. In between time, I am just praying she is still alive.

She called last night- we talked for nearly an hour.

She knows I don't approve of her lifestyle BUT she knows I love her very much and desire a relationship with her.

I *TRY* so hard to not be "preachy" with her but I find myself reminding her of how dangerous her life is, how I am waiting to hear is she is dead, and I always ask her about eternity (where will you be if you die?).

WELL, last night, she confessed to me that her "little" drug problem has become a very big problem. I knew she was smoking pot and taking pills and occasionally did meth..

But I guess she is now mixing meth with cocaine, and her latest thing is Ecstacy.

She confessed to me that she takes about 10 pills per week (over the last several months).

Apparently, Friday night, some guy rolled into their apartment from "Atlanta" and gave everyone Ecstacy. She said she knew within 15 minutes something was weird about it- it didn't "feel right".

Well, within 45 minutes, my sister was having a full blown seizure. Her friends ( if you call them that) did not call an ambulance. Instead they called around on their cell phones asking each other what to do.

One of them was told to put her in a hot shower and she would stop.

So they put her in the bathtub- and apparently, after a while she did stop.

THEN, one of them had a genius idea of giving her Seroquel ( she takes it nightly) to "just knock her out."

So they gave her 50 mg's of seroquel, put her in bed and LEFT HER THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She woke up over 18 hours LATER!

She is still having horrible headaches and has thrown up several times.

I urged her (begged her practically) to go to the hospital and tell them what happened.

Does anyone know what could've happened? Is there a chance permenant damage has been done???

I am soooo worried about her.

correction...

I meant to say she takes 10 pills of Ecstacy.

Depending on how long the seizure lasted there is likely some brain damage. Seizures cause excess glutamate and calcium influx causing neurotoxicity.

The vomiting and stuff sounds exactly like glutamate/hypercalemia. It should go away if this was her first ever, and the brain damage might be minor if she didnt sufer severe hypoxia (was she blue?). If the seizure was prolonged, there could be neurological complications. She may have been status epileptic. The fact she is vomiting a lot could also mean she has increased intracrainal pressure. Its very possible she has cerebral bleeding/hemmoraging from the damage.

She should goto the hospital yes, they need to perform a CAT scan, schedule and MRI, EEG see a neurologist and she should get a spinal tap as well.

Thank you for the information.

I talked with her briefly yesterday- she will not go and see a doctor. She refuses to help herself in any way, shape, or form. Which leaves me with my hands tied.

She is in Alabama- we are over 2,000 miles apart.

All I can do now is pray for God protect her from herself.

Sprig, I'm so sorry to hear of all this. Sometimes I think it's harder to stand by and watch this than to go through awful things yourself. And from what I've read, you're doing some of both lately.

The helplessness is awful.

But as you well know, what you said already...sometimes *all* we can do is pray. At least we know He's got the power...and perfect timing, too. I'll also pray for your sister, Spriggy.
