Flunked my *^%# physical again

Liver enzymes up, triglycerides up, sugars up. An additional daily dose of glucophage added and zocor for triglycerides.

And the reminder that if I lost fifteen pounds I wouldn't need either. :(

I haven't decided yet whether or not to be compliant.

What would prevent you from complying with your doctor's instructions?

I don't like the idea of taking drugs that could damage my liver to improve my triglycerides. Since my liver has shown elevated levels since I was in my twenties and before I ever took any drugs at all. I guess I'm a bit protective of my liver, and try not to take liver toxic drugs. I tried to explain that to my internist, but I'm not sure she understood. Maybe also because Daddy died of cirrhosis. Yeah, he was an alchoholic, but I'm not and I still have elevated levels of ALT, AST, and creatinine (sp?).

As far as glucophage, my quarterly readings were 6.3, a bit above the 6.0 that defines diabetic, but not all that high. And glucophage makes me feel cruddy. Which isn't a very specific sounding complaint, but just about covers it.

I'm tired of taking medications that make me feel worse to supposedly make me feel better. (scowl)

Aha. Well, that makes perfect sense to me!! How are you doing on the weight loss front?

We already have to put up with enough "side effects" with medications that are supposed to make us feel better. Speaking of those, since I started taking Topamax for my moods, I have not had a single migraine. It's been a great feeling to go from 7 to 10 headaches per month to none at all.

Hey Dinah,

Just saw this. My fasting blood sugar was 102 and according to the new "rules" that is not normal by 3 points, but my doc decided to let it slide. My cholestoral is high too about 238 total count, but like you I WILL NOT take something like Zocar. Too many side effects and I reacted with hives to a similiar med.

Hugs,
MB

My Mom decided not to take her Lipitor anymore because of side effects. She is taking a supplement called Cholest-Off instead and it is working. She has also found that her blood sugar has been in normal levels recently and is attributing it to the vitamin/minerals that she takes. Unfortunately she doesn’t know which is helping. My point here is that there might be a way to treat your conditions without taking meds.
