I had a bad case of the hiccups once, and I took a spoonful of sugar (white). Actually, I think it was one of those little sugar packages from a fastfood restaurant and I just dumped it right down my throat and swallowed. It worked like a charm. A friend of mine swears by that "cure". Wouldn't want to get the hiccups too often, though. Using that method as a cure could become fattening :-).

I heard about the sugar thing too. I am skeptical of course, but the first time I tried it, it worked. The second time I tried it, it also worked. I will continue to test this method out before I believe that it actually does something. Will other people try this out and record the results?
It's a very yummy way to get rid of hiccups though. :-)

It's from the muscles in your diaphragm going into a spasm. My best self cure is to make a cup of tea, sit down with a cuppa in a comfy chair, and read 5 pages in a borring book with no violence or pictures. No fair watching the TV or talking on the phone at the same time.
Just show down,

This is the ONLY thing i have ever tried that WORKED. Get a large glass of water, 12 oz, 16 is better. Drink it down really fast, gulp it. It massages the diaphragm and hiccups disappear for me.

hello there, chemist here...if it remains a problem, see your physician about one of the little-known uses for a drug that ought not be on your radar otherwise: thorazine (chlorpromazine). all the best, chemist
