I went back to the doctor becuase I'm still running fever (102) and have a horrible sore throat.
Dr. prescribed me antibiotics (even though my strep came back negative) but said my lymph glands were swollen and I shouldn't have fever for 5 days with a virus.
Anyway, I am almost certain I have thrush. I had it once before and it feels the same. I think it's spread down the back of my throat. I can't eat--- it hurts SOO bad to eat, even sucking on popsickles is painful or drinking any fluids.
My whole mouth now hurts.
I have pain medicine but it's not even bringing relief.
I am eating 2 bowls of sugar free/plain yogurt for the candida and also taking Acidophilus supplements.
Is there anything else I can do??
I haven't hurt this bad in a long time.
** And do you think I should take this antibiotics??? I'm scared it will only make it worse and it's not really bacterial (no blood test was done to check white count).

If it's not bacterial, don't take antibiotics. They don't work, and that will make them less effectual in the future.
I've never had thrust, but I'd just do what your doctor says: get some rest, drinks plenty of fluids, and if he says it's a bacterial infection, take (and complete!) your meds.
I hope you feel better soon.

Admittedly, my experience is with a different kind of thrush, but antibiotics and drawing agents are used for treating the kind I know about. I'd say that the antibiotics are a good idea -- your doctor is probably right about a virus not being quite so agressively long acting.
Also, salt water rinses/gargles should help. Did you find them helpful? Another thought, yucky as it sounds, is hydrogen peroxide gargles. (Dilute HP gargles, that is, and DO NOT SWALLOW IT! LoL)
I hope it clears up soon, you've had your share of yuckkies this year already -- now it's time to let someone else have the baddies for a while. Feel better soon.

Spriggy,
I just saw this. My daughter had a negative strep test several years ago. The doctor really let me have it for being "stupid" and trying to seek an antibiotic for her when she "just had a virus." I left the office that day feeling really put down.
Two weeks later I had to bring her back because she was having severe peeling of her hands and feet. This time she was seen by her regular doctor who yelled at me for not getting her on an antibiotic for her STREP throat! I told him to read her chart, I HAD brought her in for what I thought was a strep throat and was told I was stupid, that she had a virus and didn't need an antibiotic.
Well, it wasn't a virus. It was strep, and not just strep but scarlet fever. She had to go on an antibiotic even though her throat was better.
Now I'm not saying you for sure have strep. But since you aren't better at the very least you need to follow up with more testing.
Hugs,
MB

The fever and sore throat are gone, the thrush is better but not totally gone.
They put me on Nystatin- I swish it around and swallow it several times a day.
I'm trying to watch my sugar intake as well.
What a story about your daughter, the sad part is, it doesn't even surprise me at this point. Being so sick this last year, I have ran across some wonderful doctor's, and other's who seemed clueless.
I think it's always wise for a doctor to listen to a mother's gut intuition. :)
This is the end of the thread.
