Yesterday and today, I felt horrid nearly all day -- until I ate a Krispy Kreme donut this afternoon. This happens to me so often. Most of the time, I eat a ridiculously healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish high in omega-3's, yogurt, etc. etc., yet I feel physically ill most of each day. If I eat pizza or a donut, I feel so much better. It's as if the junk food functions as both an antidepressant and an anti-anxiety agent. I don't know what to do about this. Actually, this "phenomenon" has gone on for years, but it seems to be worse lately. Any ideas? Could it be that Woody Allen was right when he wrote the movie "SLEEPER" about thirty years ago? In that movie, the Woody Allen character, who owns the Happy Carrot Health Food Store in Greenwich Village, is cryogenically frozen in the 1970's. When he is woken up by scientists 200 years later, he is questioned about what life was like back in the 1970's. When they learn that he ate things like wheat germ and alfalfa sprouts, the scientists are astounded that he could have survived on such an unhealthy diet. One of them says something like, "Oh, yes, back in those days, they thought steak, hot fudge and creme pie were unhealthy -- precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true." Could I be suffering from the "Sleeper" syndrome?

Check out that movie called Super Size Me, I think that is what it is called. It talks a lot about why food bad or us IS addicting.

Well, do you only feel good for a few hours after eating junk food? How long does it last.
It's probably just the rise you get in your blood sugar- it's a "lift" and it probably perks you up for a while.
I know sometimes when I feel crummy, I can drink a dr. pepper and suddenly feel better. LOL
This is the end of the thread.
