Why does high humidity make me feel so sick? I don't know what I'd do without air conditioning.

I'm in my furna--er, room right now, sweating up a storm. This is misery! I definitely think cool air helps my depression.
This is in Manhattan... I don't know where you are.

Maybe it's because our bodies can't keep up with trying to cool us off? It can make me feel quite woozy, too.
I live in (gulp!) Florida and can't say that I've become acclimatized. Instead, I race from one air conditioned environment to the next.

Yesterday we had high heat, but fortunately not too much humidity. Still the heat index was over 105, I think. Yuck. And I picked that day to wander around garden centers. I had to go in because I became nauseated.
I really don't like the heat.

Same here.
I try to stay indoors from June to August, at least. :(
I'm relatively certain it's got something to do with sweat not evaporating, because the air is so saturated.
My husband's taken over the lawn mowing because we're both relatively certain I couldn't do it and live to tell the story.

Hi AMD,
When the humidity is very high, I feel as if my head is stuffed with cotton -- or something. It's very difficult to think or breathe. I don't know how people who live in the tropics can ever get anything done.
I think the weather is supposed to improve this weekend.

You're in Florida??!! Wow! I guess you're used to this humidity. What you said about our bodies being unable to keep up with cooling us off makes sense.
I don't remember the weather being this bad last summer.

Do you work out in the yard in this weather? I wait until the sun goes down, and then I get bitten by mosquitoes.
I'm always complaining about the weather. There is such a narrow range of heat and humidity within which I can function. I really need to move. . . one of these days.

Hmmm. . . Maybe this sick feeling I have has something to do with the air being super-saturated. Another friend of mine suggested the problem might have something to do with barometric pressure. I'll have to read up on that. I've long since forgotten all the Earth Science I learned years ago.
It's good that your husband is doing the lawn. I don't know how my neighbors can spend so many hours working outside in this weather. And I wonder how joggers and runners can survive.

Hi,
I don't work in the yard in that kind of weather anymore. Especially not now, when my thyroid is hyper and I am sweating like a pig even sitting indoors. Ugh.I try to do morning, but I tend to prefer sleeping. :)
