You might want to check out CONSUMER REPORTS or epinions or some other consumer-oriented website. You can buy either an "old-fashioned" manually operated blood pressure monitor or an automatic type, which is usually battery-operated. I know that Omron bp monitors have a good reputation, but they make a number of different models, and I don't know which one is currently considered the best. I've read that the older, manually operated ones are still considered to be the most accurate, but you have to train yourself how to use it properly.

Cost of a bp monitor is 30,- to a thousand $.
Omron is the most recommended brand in the US. The HEM-711 is the most poular one with automatic cuff inflation and digital read out, costs 60,- and up.
