Sore tongue

Posted by Miss Honeychurch on April 19, 2005, at 14:57:55

I'm not quite sure where to post this.

I go through bouts of having a very sore tongue. I wake up some nights because I have bitten down really hard on my tongue. I'm wondering if I am just replacing teeth grinding with tongue chewing?

Does anyone else do this? Today my tongue is extremely painful. I am trying really hard not to symptom surf here.

Anyone else do this?

I did that same thing while I was on Lexapro. I woke myself up chewing on my tongue then would have the worst sore tongue for days!

Do you notice any sores on it as well??

OUCH!

no sores at all, just hurts a lot, mostly on the sides where I guess I chew it.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who does/has done this. I've been quite anxious for the past few days over a job change. I suppose this must be the reasoning behind it. Thanks for your response!

Are you taking anything to help you sleep??

When i did this on Lexapro, I also woke up a few nights with what felt like a "locked jaw." It was so weird.

I feel your pain though.. I remember my sore tongue.. the only good part was that I ate less because it hurt too much to chew. LOL

I sleep fine, no problems there at all. I just wake up from chewing the tongue but am able to fall immediately back to sleep. Thanks for your concern!

As I type this, I'm feeling the pain too! I have a bad habit of gnawing on the side of my cheek or my tongue during my sleep. I've also broken the same tooth over and over again by grinding my teeth. In fact, I have a dentist appt. tomorrow. There is a mouthguard that you can get but it doesn't help much if you nap during the day and forget to put it in.

Klonopin seems to reduce it when taken before bed. However, if I've had any alcohol that evening I skip the Klonopin and head to bed -- usually without the guard. Needless to say, I wakeup in pain.

I wish you luck in finding help.
