The BEST LAXATIVE would have to be 2 teaspoons of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulphate) disolved in hot water, with a taste hider.
try that for a "righteous poop"--classic )

Hi B,
>I take 2 Tbs psyllium husks....
We have a psyllium medicine here called Fybogel- it makes a nice tasty drink! Better drink it quick or else it turns into a think gel!

Hi,
>BEST LAXATIVE
My least favourite laxative has to be lactulose because it causes too much flatulence (sorry).

Mag sulphate is hygroscopic, drawing massive quantities of fluid into the bowel, but along with those fluids go blood electrolytes. You can get some serious side effects due to electrolyte/hydration disturbances.
There is another approach (literally). Glycerine suppositories provide localized lubrication and promote muscle contraction, but only in the sigmoid colon. A warm water enema does a similar job.

Hi,
IMO, the best osmotic laxative is Movicol (PEG electrolytes).
The best stimulant laxative is bisacodyl (because senna doesn't work for me for some reason! Anyway, I hate the smell of senna!)
The best bulk-forming laxative is Fybogel Orange (ispaghula husk) because it tastes nice :-)

Hi PJ,

Yep! It's called ispaghula husk here. The most well known brand is Fybogel- I like the orange flavour and the lemon flavour!
