How long can you keep olives?

Posted by KaraS on March 10, 2005, at 17:56:59

I'm not sure this is the right board for this question. But, anyway, I was wondering how long olives are good for. I've had an open bottle of green olives in the fr*g for a while now, maybe a few months. Are they still edible?

According to the attached chart, the shelf-life for an opened jar of olives is 2 months. You remind me of me with that question. I am always phoning friends and asking - How long is such and such good for? Would this be safe to eat? My new food philosophy is "when in doubt, throw it out". Ticks my younger brother off, but he'll eat anything (and, no, his name is not Mikey LOL).

Take care,

Tamara

Thanks! I'll toss them ASAP. I'm always asking questions like that too. You forgot to attach the chart though. I'd love to have something like that to refer to so I don't have to keep bugging friend and babblers.

I like all kinds of olives, especially the black Kalamata (or is it Kalamita?) olives that are used in Greek salads.

I prefer the green salad olives - preferably without the red stuff in the middle (my memory is so shot these days that I can't think of the name of it).
