I went in to get permission to take Frova more often on those infrequent occasions where I get a series of migraines that *feel* like a one week or two week long migraine with breaks from pain interspersed. I know that's not accurate, they just recur frequently for a period of time then everything goes back to normal. I got that permission.
I also let her know that I'm having visual disturbances that disrupt my ability to tough out the pain and continue to work. Increase in the frequency of migraine aura.
She said I had some bulging of the eye cup that wasn't there last year, and wants me to be checked by my eye doctor to rule out glaucoma. I was planning to see the eye doctor anyway in early January, but I didn't want to be anxious about it that long, so I called to see if they had an opening. The receptionist scared me all over by frantically trying to fit me in right away. I have work commitments today so she's squeezing me in Monday.
I can see from my research that it's treatable if caught early. And I see that I am at high risk for chronic glaucoma - over forty, diabetic, nearsighted.
It feels like I'm just falling apart since I got diabetes, and I'm wondering if I'm going to be one of those people where the diabetes really progresses rapidly rather than like my mother who is just now at 72 starting to feel the really bad effects of a lifetime of not really behaving like a diabetic should.
I don't mind *dying*, I suppose. But I don't want to be blind, or missing parts of me, or a burden to my family.
Oh well. I suppose I only need to worry till Monday. That's something, right?

Dinah I will be praying for you. I used to work for an eye doctor way back and if someone had told me a neurologist said to get a chek for ANY reason I would have made a point to fit them in that day..Not that anything is wrong but doctors offices try to make a point to respect one another that way. Some meds can register more pressure so you will need a full list of all the meds you are on. I hope your eye doc has more than the air machine to test for glaucoma they have 2 other tests that are much better and more precise. Youve had enough on you ..I pray you get a break

Thanks, Fallen. That does make me feel better. I hadn't thought of it that way. I was thinking more that the receptionist thought it was an emergency. This feels better.
I'll have to wait to find out what sort of equipment he has. I've never paid much attention before because everything's been fine. He is one of those doctors that spend forever and a day with each patient though. It's highly annoying when you're waiting, but nice when you're in there.
I hadn't thought of the meds. There may be something I have taken fairly recently that could have caused it. I'll have to sit down and make a list.
I really hope she was wrong, but I'm worried because she's *really* the best at what she does so I tend to take her words very seriously.
And my dog who went blind went blind partially from glaucoma, so I've got some bad associations.
But there's no sense worrying about it till Monday. (Snort. As you can see, I'm not worrying at all, right?). OK, how about I'll look forward to laughing at myself Monday evening for being such a worrywart.

Youre very welcome Dinah and I understand why you would be worried I worry too. But am better with other peoples fears :) If your eye doc is not an opthamologist he may only have 1-2 of the tests you may want to have done for the glaucoma. Get all 3 before you accept the dx....you will most likely pass test number one the air kind. If you pass that cool you do not need test 2...If you have been on drugs like Seroqual
(sp) you will want to look it up..google the rare side effects and get the 3rd type of test for this. BTW, my mom had glaucoma and used drops and was fine...later she was able to stop the drops (this is rare) because the pressure in her eyes were from the radiation she was getting. I know odd stuff...I have had more jobs than Donald Duck. Good luck and many prayers you'll be ok hon.> Thanks, Fallen. That does make me feel better. I hadn't thought of it that way. I was thinking more that the receptionist thought it was an emergency. This feels better.
