Sinus infection?

Posted by Wildflower on November 19, 2004, at 15:32:15

Does anyone know if you can have a sinus infection without any nasal/head symptoms? It sounds gross but I have that bad-tasting crap in my throat (post-nasal drip) and it's driving me nuts! I usually get this with a sinus infection. My body also seems pretty tired. I've got a supply of antibiotics but I don't want to take them unless I'm sick. I refuse to go to the doctor for this...

Thanks and sorry for grossing anyone out.

It's possible to not have the nasal symptoms if the back sinus is involved. I've read this as well as have a story to back it up (although many doctors believe differently). I would think that you'd still have some of the head problems though. I used to get the head exploding feeling with post nasal drip but without the nasal symptoms.

A few years ago my sister had horrible headaches. She was in so much pain that she had to be hospitalized. The doctors couldn't figure it out. They ruled out sinus problems because she didn't have the nasal congestion symptoms. When she finally had an MRI, it showed the back sinus or sinuses were infected.

I don't know if this answers your question but it might be an other piece of the puzzle.

my husband uses a sterile saline for sinus. He gets it at the drugstore. I have used it when I have had sinus problems and it's great.
