If you don't have them on a regular basis you might just be very dehudrated right now. Dehudration can cause some of the worst headaches ever. Try to drink lots of water right now - push yourself to drink at least one quart (1 litre). They lay down in a cool, dark room and try to go asleep. The ibuprofen should help and might "kick in" better with more fluids in your system. Chemicals like bleach and paint, as well as bending over in ackward positions (like in cleaning!!) you might have tweaked you neckand back which can easily trigger a bad headache. Try lots of fluis and some sleep first - you might be surprised.
Good luck, sleep tight and sweet dreams.

Also, cool wet compresses are very soothing and help to constrict the blood vessels near the skin's surface. A face towel in a water and ice-filled bowl works wonders.

I get migraines often and Excedrin Migraine seems to work the best for me along with a few glasses of water. I used to be on prescription medicine for them and my doctor told me if I'm ever in a pinch and don't have access to them, try to get a cup of coffee or other strong caffeine product and find someone that has true aspirin on them. Most OTC migraine meds are a combination of caffeine and aspirin. It's also important not to dehydrate yourself when you're having one.
Hope you feel better soon!

I get infrequent migraines. The last one I had that came full blown lasted 18 hours. Most of it I was in a lot of pain. Could not take any daylight at all. What I have found works especailly before it is full blown is a very strong cup of coffee. Or expresso . Or several cups of coffee. Even if you are feeling very nausious like I do when I get them. The nausia is from your head even if it is not hurting yet. I got an aura the other day for a couple of hours. I did not know it was a migraine for about an hour. All I knw was that I was sweating and nausous and could not focus . My mother was talking to me and I could not focus on what she said and only heard some of it. We were in a resturant and all the noise around, the people and things were like in a twilight zone. Like if you are in a loud place but have ear muffles on so you cannot actually hear anything but some muffed noise. I was very afraid because I never had this before. Anyway about half an hour into it the side of my head started to hurt so I realised it was a migraine and ordered expresso immediatly. I drank two cups and it took about another hour and a half but my head stopped hurting and all the symtoms went away. I have drank strong coffee every time I felt a migraine coming on and have been able to avoid another full blown one. I also drank coffee after one ws pretty bad and it heped a lot. This one started coming back about five hours later and I drank the coffee again and it worked. It came back about 24 hours again and again coffee go rid of it. It has been about two days now so I am hoping it is permanent.
Anyhow the advise about a cold compress makes sense. It does the same thing as the coffee. The caffiene constricts the blood vessels which are dialated with the migraine. I would try those two things immediately if you think a migraine is coming on. I do not think this works for everyone but I guess I am lucky and grateful it does for me. I would stand on my head to avoid a migraine.
Good Luck.
