I can't stop drinking coffee all day long!!!!

Posted by Stryker88 on October 3, 2004, at 2:45:51

Don't get me wrong coffee is not necessarily the worst habit, but I hate being dependent on it and I know i would have more energy without it. Sometimes I am in a really good mood with lots of concentration and energy and I realize its because I have not a cup of Java in a few hours, then I crave one and I end up feeding the craving, after I guzzle the hot cup of boiling coffee I am depressed, sad, low energy, and cannot concentrate, obviously this is a problem since most of the time I drink it is at work.

Giving up caffeine is really difficult but helps in easing symptoms of anxiety. You might try to wean yourself off by mixing decaf with the real thing, but do it very slowly. I can now get by with 1 1/2 cups of this mix every day without wilting.
If I slip up and get something high-test, I truly regret it as it disagrees with my meds. I've gone into hyperspace and after being peeled off the ceiling, have spent the next 6 hours shuddering. Yuck.

Gosh, I really am lucky. I drink a half pot of strong filter coffee everyday. This used to be one to two pots but because of my weight issues, I decided to cut down. I can skip a couple of days and not crave or feel any withdrawal. I have decided to switch to decaf soon, just to see if there is a difference.

My mood doesn't change with coffee. I do miss that cigarette with a cuppa though!

Stryker, I empathise. It obviously is not easy for you. And not to make light of your situation, I would swap my alcohol drinking for too much coffee anyday :)

I drink maybe 3 'proper' (brought) coffee's and maybe 4 cups of instant per day. I am really lucky that if I am prevented I do not seem to notice withdrawal symptoms at all. I don't think I crave it, I just like it. Now cigarettes on the other hand...

Good luck with cutting back / stopping. I think the mixing it with decaf idea sounds good.

One cup a day is all it takes to be an addict:

Hrm. I am on Effexor and I live on 'V', coke, and coffee. I don't really eat as such, but there is a lot of sugar in these foods and they are keeping me alive :-)

And awake, of course, there is always that...

I decided to switch to decaff today. Let's see if all my bragging about not being affected by coffee is true :)

I'm drinking caffeine because I SO need (the feeling of) the drive provided by an SNRI, but can tolerate none; nor Pamelor, nor Norpramin, nor any longer ANY TCA. Remeron just went out the window - as a first ever numb/ burning hand side-effect emerged (I had accepted the extreme binging for hours every night & subsequent weight gain in favor of my mental health; btw, I found that Remeron was even worse re: these at the higher dosages).

Also drinking it because I'm addicted. So it goes...

Black 'V' - the new coffee for summer

Well we are moving into summer in this part of the world and there is a new product: black 'V'. It's got 2X the Taurine of ordinary V, it tastes less sweet, sort of coffee or chocolatey like yummmmmmy.

It hasn't been marketed yet, but apparantly the intention is to capture the coffee market over summer. Do you guys have it? I think I could be a convert.
