i was just wondering...

Posted by sunni on May 24, 2004, at 23:33:31

i've been experiencing rapid mood swings. with some periods of "normal" moods inbetween periods or "up" and "down". i don't really know how to describe the way i feel most of the time.. and most of the time i'm aware that my mood has changed or isn't right. i also experience anxiety and times where i feel so overwhelmed i just burst into tears and struggle to breathe. i suppose i was just wondering if anyone has experienced the same things and what they have done about it.

Welcome to my life. Are you taking any medications?

It sounds to my unprofessional ears (or eyes, whatever) like you're depressed and also have anxiety or panic attacks. If you have a clinic at school, they should probably be able to help you, or you could try calling your regular doctor. Ask her/him to call you back and tell her/him what's going on. Perhaps he could call in a prescription or direct you where to get help.

Most importantly, be up front and truthful about answering any questions (i.e., drinking, drug use, stresses you are under) as there are lots of factors that could be making you feel this way.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

it's not so much i'm depressed really. alot of the time i feel unstable and although i worry alot i worry most about when or if my mood is going to change. i know i need to seek help, i don't need my 1 yr growing up wondering why mommy is happy one minute and irritated and upset the next.

I can tell you from my experience that getting on the right medications was the best thing I could have done. There are so many out there! I ended up on 4 meds that I now take: effexor xr, wellbutrin xl, ambien, and xanax. I was finally diagnosed last October with BipolarII, generalized anxiety, and panic attacks. The sooner you get help the better it will be, because unfortunately these cycles sometimes increase in severity and frequency if left untreated. I had been getting worse and worse over a 7 year period until my husband helped me find a psychiatrist and a therapist. I couldn't do it on my own.

Best of luck to you, Sunni. Nice to meet you!
