Out of step -- how much should I weigh?

Posted by Racer on May 20, 2004, at 1:26:25

I know, it's my own little obsession. How much should I weigh? I've looked at a ton of weight charts, and just can't quite figure it out. Can anyone help? I'm a middle aged woman, 5'9" tall, small bones but BIG pelvis, and busty and pot bellied. Any help with figuring out a good target weight?

Thanks.

I thought it was mostly derived from your height. My guess - and this is only a guess - would be around 150? And you know all that muscle being heavier than fat, etc. etc.

I'm pretty clueless about this. My take is how comfortable I feel in my clothes and whether or not I can stand to look at myself in the mirror.

The rule of thumb I have always used, although I'm not sure where I got it, is 100 pounds for 5 ft. and then 5 pounds for every inch of height after that. That would make it 145 for you. I also tend to think that this is on the thin side(perhaps because I am nowhere near that now), as it would be 125 for me. I haven't weighed that in years, but I have been thinner. I'm guessing that at 125 I would be around a size 6 or less.

hi racer -

i'm 5'11" and big boned, and i would be hovering on the edge of thin at 160. (last saw that weight at age 17). at that weight i wore a 14 comfortably and could shop in "normal" stores.

since you are middle aged i would think 160 would be a good weight for 5'9". fitting into a standard size i think would be the goal.

if you are interested in weight loss maybe we could do a weight loss support thread. (i could use some!) good luck!

Yes, yes yes a weight loss thread....I need the support. I am on a diet and have lost some weight but I have so much more to go and I would love the support.
I am 5'5" tall and now weight 162lbs. I need to get down to my goal....of .....145. It's not that much to lose but I seem to be losing at the rate of one pound a month. I am on the atkins diet and they say....blaaaa blaaa....So I am a slow loser. I have been on this diet since Dec.2003.
summer seems to be when it's easier to lose weight but I have slowed down. I am getting kind of discouraged. So if it takes me a month to lose a pound....then in oct or 2005 I will be my ideal weight???? Yeks! It takes so long.

This is the end of the thread.
