I'm seeing a new GYN on Wed who specializes in endoctrinology, and besides a list of my symptoms, does anyone have any suggestions on what tests are best to have done, and what questions to ask? I'm having severe PMDD/PMS...the depression/anger/instability I feel during the 2 weeks prior to my period are different from my BPII symptoms, and are getting intolerable. I'm 40, and I'm sure my body is going through some changes.....
I already take Effexor XR 300mgs, and just started Zonegran (mood stabilizer) 25mg. I've tried an anti-psychotic for the PMDD (seroquel) - no luck...and I don't really want to add any more drugs to this particular cocktail, (of the psychiatry kind, anyway...)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and maybe it will help some others too, because I've read quite a few posts from others having this same problem!

You might ask about adding Evening Primrose Oil for the pms symmptoms. I'm also BP2 and on effexor, buspar, wellbutrin and xanax, and I still get cranked before my period. 400mg of EPO taken for the 2 weeks prior seems to help with ALL pms symptoms, even the emotional effects. I believe it affects the proglastin production, but don't quote me.
(In the last 6 months I was put on a combi-patch to alleviate perimenopausal problems, but it didn't do anything for the emotional problems at all.)
I really didn't believe it until I was involved in a study in the UK when all symptoms were charted for 6 months. There were improvements overall.
Just make sure you let your dr. know all the meds you're on already, and your wishes to not add yet another med.
Best of luck, and let us know how it goes!
