Drinking Water! Health Tips!

Posted by Stryker88 on January 30, 2004, at 20:27:25

I heard that we are supposed to drink 8 x 8oz of water per day for optimal health, but what if I drink way more than that. On an average day I drink about 6 to 7 33oz bottles of water a day that is about 4 to 5 times more than the recommended amount of water. Can someone who knows about this help me thank you!

I can :-) I drank a lot of water way back and for some time add to that the liquid in soup and ice tea I drank way more than the 8x8 but I also exercise a GREAT deal and thought I was doing good. Um you can "overhydrate" I did and your brain swells. So maybe cut down OR find out WHY you are drinking so much, you may be diabetic? I was cause of exercise. You can look it up on google ..Frankly until I had a problem I didn't think one could drink too much.

Well, I drink coffee in the morning, green tea, Rockster Energy Drink, coffee at lunch, tea later, coke or pepsi at lunch just about everysingle day. I don know but ever since I started taking Effexor I have started to indulge more in soda and food (healthy food though). Since coffee sucks all the water out of you like a vacuumm I think I need to drink alot of water.

I don't know. I think it would depend on some individual factors. I have heard that having too much can throw one's electrolytes off, but I would think this would really vary from person to person.

I drink a lot of water, too, but I stopped keeping track of how much. Problem is that I have to pee a lot, too, which can be annoying.

For the short time I was on lithium, I drank a ton of liquid, and was drawn to sugary liquids like juice drinks and regular Coke. That was not good for me.

Unless you are drinking de-caf tea, it can have as much caffeine as coffee...sometimes more.

I know, and that is my point exactly. You cannot just think coffee or tea is going to save you from becoming OVERHYDRATED cause it sure didn't me..and I only drank Tea and water and most of it was tea..so it can happen. I think it is best to ask your doctors what to do as far as how much water is best for you and maybe kill the caffine, and sugar

With lithium, your supposed to drink more water due to the fact that lithium caused polyuria (you pee alot). It also helps counteract dry mouth.

If someone consumes a large quantity of water it can cause an electrolyte imbalance, and fluid overload. You have to watch out for fluid overload if you have kidney problems or CHF. One way to tell if you are consuming too much fluid is if you have edema (swelling) in your extremities, especially your legs. Tea acts as a diuretic, as does coffee -- that's why you have to urinate so much. Typically dehydration is more of a problem than fluid overload.
