This sounds really promising...

Hi, I was researching churches, and found this list of basic beliefs of Unitarian Universalists:

http://www.uua.org/aboutuu/newcomerfaq.html#9

I can really embrace all these notions! That one about individuals inventing their own theology especially. I assumed I'd have to sort of do that in secret, and find some church that almost fit, where I could take their doctrine with a grain of salt, and try to tread the line between being true to myself and being part of the group, and sort of be on the fringe with the other people who didn't take the belief system completely to heart. Which is sometimes successful, and sometimes not.

Wow, now I just have to go to the church itself. I hope it will feel like a good fit in person, and not just on paper.

Actually, my therapist recommended a unitarian church to me. I have issues with the whole 'one right religion' thing, so she said I might feel comfortable at a unitarian church. Haven't gone yet, but I'll be interested to hear your experience, and may try one for myself!

Tabitha,

Unitarian Universalists are an interesting group of people. I really enjoy talking with them. I used to belong to a synagogue that rented space from a Unitarian Church in Chicago. They even allowed us to put a mezzuzah (a piece of enclosed parchment that has a central statement of belief in Judaism) on the entryway to their sanctuary. How cool is that?

I've never attended a service at a Unitarian Church. When my mother was a child she went to Unitarian Church services. She said that they were the most fun for her.

You really have me thinking here. I would suspect that Unitarian Services run the gammit and that every congregation has its own way of doing things. I'm curious now.

Thanks for the informaion,
Simcha

Tabitha -

While you're doing your searching, have you checked out the rest of that "more loving" webiste you referenced a while ago?

Just curious as to your response to it.

Shalom, Dena

Yes I did read it. I didn't realize it was going to be a Bible-based Christian perspective from the first few pages I looked at. That just isn't the right type of faith for me. Thanks for asking.
