rayww - a question about your faith and your posts

Posted by NikkiT2 on December 12, 2002, at 9:32:16

I will try not to be unsupportive in my questions. I am simply intersted in others views on it while i try and sort my own faith out in my head.

You say that people bought up with faith make less bad choices. This makes sense. But, I am interested in what you mean as faith. Is this a Christian faith, who believes in one god, or does this cover other faiths, such a paganism and Buddhism??

Thanks for helping me out here

Nikki

Agency is a gift of God.
The simple faith I am talking about is faith in God, in the power of prayer, and obedience to the 10 Commandments.

One of the 10 commandments states that we are to have no other gods. Words in the scriptures are bold. http://scriptures.lds.org/matt/22/36-38#36
and I believe them.

A lot of what I have taught my own children was based upon what my parents taught me. Theirs was based upon what their parents taught them. Somewhere in your line there may have been a religious base to your own traditions as well.

I can go back about 4 or 5 generations before I can find any serious religious commitment in my family. My fathers family were catholic - mainly by the area of Ireland they lived in.. but were not practicing catholics (apart from the HUGE families they had!!). My father had an appaling upbringing with no structure or traditions practiced. My mothers family is church of england, but not practicing in any way. I am the only member of my surviving family (including over 30 cousins!) to be confirmed in any faith. We are all, bizarrely, christened though!!

Anyway.. I have gone off track...

Thankyou for your honest answers. I know I question too much on here, but it is due to true interest rather than anything malicious.

I may ask more once I have pondered!!!

Nikki

-free to choose.
-on their path through life.
-good people.
-part of the whole human family.
-doing their best.
-the same as me.

Sometimes a pagan belief rises up for the sole purpose of defying the true God. Regardless, there is always a jealousy deeply rooted and a desire to get gain and glory, and a deep seeded greed for power, wealth, fame, success, and a following. But, the true God is also a jealous God. How be it true followers submit their own will to the will of their God, and give the glory to him, the unseen, rather than to the visible glorified man. Even Christ gave the glory and honor to his Father in heaven.
