I was raised in a Fundamentalist Baptist Bible Believing Home.
I really think that I was harmed by those teachings in many ways.
I'm totally over it now, to the point I don't even bother mentioning it much anymore.
But I do feel sorry for people who are raised in it, or who are drawn in at a vulnerable time in their lives, and who stay with those beliefs even though they are casuing harm.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi Fachad,
Wow, I have too much to say on this one. I'm also from the Bible belt. I was not raised in a fundamentalist home, but had lots of exposure to it (Baptists, Pentecostals, Bible cult fringe groups, etc).
I think the worst thing I came away with was a morality that we're just here to do "right" or "wrong" and then be judged for it (judged by other people during life, judged by God after death). That's it, no sense of what really makes people do what they do, what they really need, how to find happiness or fulfill potential.
It took 3000 miles distance and hundreds of therapy hours to dislodge this bleak vision of human life from my psyche.

Religion is a powerful thing. Anything that powerful has the ability to harm or help, depending on how it's used and what the needs of an individual are.

Again, please email me if you'd like to speak with someone from a similar background- parents converted from Episcopal to Born Again/Evangelical when I was 4.

I know a lady that had parents who were missionaries. When she and her brothers were young, the parents put them in foster homes and such so they, the parents, could "serve God".
I hope there is a special place in hell for those idiots.
