I'm beginning to believe my body is pretty

Posted by Deneb on November 19, 2006, at 1:53:42

I posted a picture of me in a tankini on this weight loss support forum. I thought I was really fat and posted that, but then two people posted that I wasn't fat, that I have a normal body.

I'm seeing that now. I'm not skinny, but I'm also not fat. I'm normal. Some thin girls on a pro-anorexia support forum posted their pictures and I didn't think that being thin meant looking good. I thought some looked better when they were heavier.

My body is not hideous even though I have huge thighs and calves. (My calves are so big I can't buy any high boots, not even ones larger than my shoe size.) It's OK to have abnormally thick calves, it's genetic. It's not unhealthy to have really thick calves and they work just fine, so they are beautiful. I don't need to wear high boots.

I also have a bit of a belly. The belly is harder to deal with. Belly fat is unhealthy because it indicates higher levels of visceral fat. I will try to lose a few pounds to decrease my waist-to-hip ratio. However, it's not "hideous" to have some belly. It's normal. Few people have perfectly flat bellies.

Being beautiful should be about being healthy. What I should really focus on is exercise like aerobic activity and strength training to build muscle.

I don't think I have severe body image problems. I think I do like my body, but sometimes I think my body is unacceptable to other people. When those two people posted that my body was normal and even "attractive", I started to doubt my thinking.

((((((((Deneb's body))))))))))

My body does so much for me, I should be more thankful for it. I should be very happy that it's a healthy body.

Well those were very nice thoughts. You're very very very very brave for posting a picture of yourself like that - I certainly couldn't do it. Yes, its very pretty. I think nearly all women dislike some aspect of their bodies to a certain degree. If you keep those nice positive thoughts in your head, I'm sure it will help.

Are those pics of your hamster? They're very cute!!!

So how do I get to see you, apart from your finger and the small furry animals?

It is a thing you realise (too late) how beautiful young people are. (I have 3 young relatives, 16, 17, and 19.) I never felt that when I was their age.
