Book recommended by my T

Posted by Racer on November 8, 2006, at 10:52:32

My T is recommending a book called "Life Without Ed" to her clients with eating disorders. I'm reading it right now, and thought I'd share the recommendation here. So far, it's very upbeat, very hopeful, and has a few suggestions for recovery that seem as though they'd be very helpful.

One suggestion is to create a support team around you, including friends and family as well as therapist, doctor, and dietitian. Another is to email a food plan to someone when you're having trouble, as a way to keep the incentive going.

The biggest push, though, is about learning to separate the eating disorder from yourself. Figure out whether you're speaking, or "Ed" is speaking. Are you the one who wants to order the green salad without dressing? Or is that "Ed?" It's a little hokey, of course, but it also sounds as though it would work if one could do it.

So, I hope if anyone does read this, you'll post here about your impressions and if anything helps you in your recovery.

This is the end of the thread.
