Treatment Center Reccomendations?

Posted by narcissistic_martyr on April 3, 2005, at 18:38:58

its one thing to go on the internet and do a search for ED treatment...its a completely different thing to get the "inside scoop" on what various places are like from ppl who've actually been ther. so, anyone been &/or currently doing IP/IOP/OP? If so, where, and what was your experience?

thanx!

Hi,
I don't think you will get too many responses on this board. You should go to somethingfishy.org and join their online board. You will find many veterans there.

I hate to admit it, but I think Maxime's right: You're more likely to get responses on this one at somethingfishy.org.

My nutritional counselor, though, really likes Monte Nido. It's in Southern California, and from their information package, it looks pretty good. I've never been IP, nor even IOP. In fact, I have only started getting treatment in the past few months, and it's only OP. Nutritional counseling -- adore my N -- and therapy with a general psychologist. The only ED specialist in the area who would see me turned out to be -- well, I was waiting for the crystals to come out, you know? None of the other ED specialists around here would see me, because I'm middle aged, and I am a restricing anorexic. All of them will work with bulimics, and many will work with the b/p anorexics, but none would see a restricting only AN.

Those that were willing to speak with me on the telephone before turning me down all asked my weight and height, and then wanted to know what was wrong with my doctor, why I wasn't in the hospital? But I've never been hospitalized. And I'm not sure it would be a good thing to try, since I've stopped eating every time I have been in the hospital. Hate hospital food... ;-)

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck in your search.

thanx

actually, i used to be member of the SF board a couple of years ago, but i had my account closed upon request b/c i found all the "rules" to be a little restrictive. i suppose i wasnt ready for such a "recovery-oriented" site, lol. thanks for the advice, though.
