In bed etc, "Blood, Sweat and Tea".. Thumbs up (but I'm biased as the author is a semi-frend), and his blog can be seen at http://randomreality.blogware.com/

"Cold Case" by Stephen White. Thumbs up. It's a Potato Chip Book, but it's more like a Ruffles than a store brand, if you know what I mean...
(I'm working my way through his books. Liking them all.)
In between, as usual, New Scientist Magazine...

I just picked up in a used book store...
"A Great Deliverance" by Elizabeth George, whom Racer recommended. She's a great author for what I call Airport Reading, something I can pass on to my husband once I'm done devouring it.
Special thanks to Racer for suggesting this author!!

"Black Earth City A Year in the Heart of Russia" by Charlotte Hobson. Pretty good.
I love anything about Russia and Eastern Europe.

I am reading "Born in Death" by JD Robb (aka Nora Roberts) - thumbs up because I love this series, but I wouldn't say this is the best one in the series.
Also reading "Song of the Humpback Whales" by Jodi Picoult. Lent to me by a lady in my reading group. Not as good as her other books. I would give it a thumbs down but it seems like it's about to pick up.
Also reading "Giraffes can't dance". Fantastic.
Also reading "The Silver Boat". A healing story for my younger parts.
Also reading a locally produced book about how the various rocks formations and landforms in my area were created.

too many school textbooks, but they are thumbs up for good info, but I truely miss reading for just the enjoyment factor. I need a good book for school break.

i just had the wittiest, most intellectual post ever and somehow it got dumped into the trash. oh well, it just talked about not being able to read really (cause kids don't like to be thrown into a closet with the door locked. go figure)
amyway, my most recent reading was "captain underpants and the preepostorous plight of the purple potty people" it's cute!
any ideas for something a bit more grown-up (not too much now!) that i can pick up and put down about 26 billion times in a day and not lose interest?

I just finished "Possible Side Effects" by Augusten Burroughs and now I'm starting "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell.
In between I'm always flipping through Vanity Fair, Newsweek and People.

I like the title. Very funny visual.> any ideas for something a bit more grown-up (not too much now!) that i can pick up and put down about 26 billion times in a day and not lose interest?
Augusten Burroughs has a book called "Magical Thinking" which are small vignettes that are somewhat humorous. If you read and liked "Running with Scissors" you might enjoy it. Although its not quite as good.
Happykat :)
P.S. - Can someone tell me the secret to making the arrows show up in the subject line when you post. I type them in (>>) but they never show up on the post.

Just finished "A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey. I know, I know - and I bet it's been talked about a million times already, but I still wanted to see what the fuss was about :-)
I found the narrative style frustrating, the repetition annoying sometimes -- though I assume that was done on purpose. If it's truth or not, I still give it thumbs up for the un-glamourous portrayal.Finished "Beasts by Joyce Carol Oates" . [sorry had to include her name in the quotes to get it to show up as an option] Short. Intense. Obsessive/manipulative relationship. Thumbs up for a short page turner.
Now I've just started "Toward the End of Time" by John Updike. I enjoyed the "Rabbit" series, and "In the Beauty of the Lillies" so I thought I'd give this a shot.
And I read the celebrity magazines. Can't help it. Guilty pleasure.
This is the end of the thread.
