I finished this last night. so good to read a book through again. "Arc d'X" by Steve Erickson.
It's from 1993 and is one of those all over the place experimental novels. It involves Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings and alternate realities and the end of the world. Sometimes this kind of stuff leaves me feeling time-wasted, but this one made me cry.
The closest I can come to in style as an example is "Was" by Geoff Ryman.
The back cover has favorable quotes by Pynchon, Gibson, Straub, and T. Robbins. I guess they are about right, I'd throw in some J.G. Ballard.
