My husband wants me to order a book for him from Amazon. Of course, I am happy to do so, since when I order a book for him, the package would be quite unbalanced if I didn't order a couple for me to balance it out...
The problem is that I have a stack of books I haven't read yet, and most everything on my wishlist at Amazon is in one of two catagories: "I'll get it sooner or later..." or "WAAAAYYY too expensive, gotta wait until someone buys it for me for Christmas..." So what does anyone suggest?
I'm kinda thinking that I might do a search and get something by David Sedaris, because I liked "Me Talk Pretty One Day" so much. Or maybe "Lucky" since I liked "The Lovely Bones." Then there's "Plague : The Mysterious Past and Terrifying Future of the World's Most Dangerous Disease," or "City of Plagues," or maybe "The Land of Naked People : Encounters with Stone Age Islanders." Then again, maybe I want some more critter books, like "The EARTH DWELLERS: Adventures in the Land of Ants ," "Thieves, Deceivers, and Killers : Tales of Chemistry in Nature," "Fire Ants," "The Biology of the Honey Bee," "Social Evolution in Ants," or "Ants, Bees, and Wasps: A Record of Observations on the Habits of the Social Hymenoptera."
Or I could be good...
But then again, there are things like "We Need to Talk About Kevin : A Novel," "A Dusk of Demons," "The World in Winter," "Empire of the Ants," "A Wrinkle in the Skin," "The Year of the Comet," "Some Will Not Die," "Never Let Me Go," or maybe "Shadow of the Giant."
Or maybe I should just bite the bullet and get one from the $$$ list? Like "The Last Ape: Pygmy Chimpanzee Behavior and Ecology?"
Anyone got any opinions? Suggestions?
Or should I be good?
(No, it's too hard to be good! I can be good, just not all the time...)

Hey Racer, nice to see you.
Only advice I can give is to give "We Need To Talk About Kevin" a complete miss. It's pretty awful in all kinds of ways. I posted Nikki about it a while back when she tried to read it too.
I've just started "Never Let Me Go" and am not enjoying it the way I did with his others - not sure why, will post more when I finish it.
As books and CDs are my only real indulgences my advice on being good can't be trusted. I'd go for it.
Take care,
Damos

A better bee book is "The Honey Bee" by James L. Gould. Really comprehensive and lots of pictures :-)

...it's unavailable from Amazon.
ClearSkies' library is open, though. Would you like to check it out?

Looks like you have a very good wish list *grins*
Amazon seems to be learning from my wish list, and keeps offering me tube related books which is SO unfair *L* Amusingly, it does keep offering one that is written by a friend, and I don't like to tell it I already own the book (quick plug *L* "One Stop Short of Barking : Uncovering the London Underground")
It is nice to see my wish list shrinking at the moment though *laughing* I did get over excited and have 34 things on there at one point, but its so easy for letting my family know what I want for birthday and christmas *L*
What would we do without Amazon huh?!

Mr X decided that he didn't need the books right away, and then found one in a store, so there's no order to be placed at this time.
I just finished "The Barbary Plague," though, and found it quite readable. If anyone here is interested in the political climate of San Francisco before the Great Quake, or the history of public health, or personalities of the period, or any number of other things, I recommend this one.
Well, back to "Aberystwyth, Mon Amour."
This is the end of the thread.
