Anyone have any suggestions that I could read (as a child of a bp parent) and also for my fahter to read to understand himself??
I want something detailed- my dad is brilliant and anything too elementary will lose him.
thanks.

something by Kay Redfield Jamison, perhaps "An Unquiet Mind" - shes bipolar, works in mental health (mood disorders) this book is a memoir, but she has other books, maybe you know her? Well I read it a long time ago, so I honestly don't remember too much, but I know I enjoyed it. Good luck. :-)

Thank you so much. I just ordered it off Amazon along with the "survival's guide to understanding bipolar disorder" (or something like that).
I appreciate your input!

Also, the "Noonday Demon" book is an excellent account of living with bipolar, with a lot of information about how medications have been developed.

Hi Spriggy,
Sorry, I found your post a little late, nut if you are still looking for anything good to read on bipolar, Kay Redfield Jamison (my hero) wrote another book called "Touched With Fire" that talks about the link between bipolar illness and a creative/genius temperment. Also, the book that has always helped me the most to understand myself, especially when I am depressed is "Unholy Ghost", a collection of writers on depression (and a little on manic depression), put together by Nell Casey. I still refer to it when I need to understand that other people 'have been there'.
