Hi people!
I'm going to re-read "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene. I've read it two times already, I've enjoyed it everytime. It is about "Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions and the Quest for the Ulitmate Theory."
Anybody want to join me so we can discuss it afterward?

I'm about to read "Thought in a Hostile World" by Kim Sterelny. He is a philosopher of biology who writes on the evolution of human cognition (and the co-evolution of language and thought).
He is pretty good. You are welcome to join me if you would like.

I read Kim Sterelny's earlier book, "Dawkins vs. Gould : survival of the fittest" (2001). I thought it was great. A very enlightening look at academic rivalries.
Alas, our library doesn't have 'TiaHW.' I expect it would be good.

I haven't read any of his other books.
I am about half way through this one now, it is pretty good.Would you be interested in reading "Representational Theory of Mind" if you can get hold of it??? It is pretty hard going phil. of mind if I remember rightly (I started it). I should probably read it again and would be grateful for a companion.

I can't get "White Queen," either. It sounds really interesting, too: rationality and biological norms.

Hmm. Not so much of a bummer... The first couple pages of each article were quite interesting but from that point on they tended to get rather dry and incomprehensible and reminded me too much of my honours year :-(
You don't need books when you have the internet. See, for example:

She has some of her books / articles available from there. Fairly prolific...
This is a good resource if you are interested in consciousness / mind:
David Chalmers homepage is pretty good too.
If you want to talk about any of those papers, it would probably be useful to me to have a read...
(I'm particularly keen on Daniel Dennett)

I liked that a lot, too. I read it initially because my son is studying for a PhD. in experimental string theory at Princeton, and I wanted to be able to discuss his work with him a bit. But the book itself is really interesting. All those dimensions!
